UPCOMING EVENTS.  Please note the following dates on your calendar:

 

Monday, October 25,  2004.  General Membership Meeting. Semi-annual business meeting of the Association.    7:00 PM. for refreshments (cheese and cracker and dessert trays) and a bit of socializing.  Meeting and speaker at 7:30 PM. At the Mt. Vernon Unitarian Church in the Mansion House (next to the sanctuary).  Church member Walter Clontz will speak on the Mt. Vernon Unitarian Church expansion plans and new parking lot.

 

Saturday, October 30.  Mason Hill Community Yard SALE.  Newspaper advertising and signs provided by the Association. Place marked items in your own yard or driveway or sell them from the Cotrell’s front yard at 1916 Windmill Lane.  7 AM to NOON or time of your choosing.  Contact: Brent Cottrell, 703-660-6974.

 

DUES.    A number of residents have not yet paid their 2004 Association Dues.  A check for $25 should be made out to Mason Hill Citizens Association, and can be brought to the October 25 meeting or mailed to Nancy de Moraes at 1915 Mason Hill Dr.    If you wish to verify if you have paid or not, give Nancy a call at (703) 768-2599.

 

ENTRANCE.  We will not be having a Fall Cleanup Day this year.  Thanks mainly to Brent and Peg Cottrell, the two gardens on either side of Mason Hill at Ft. Hunt have been planted with fairly maintenance-free vegetation—they look great!  Brent and Tom Franks trimmed the pear trees which have a lovely bloom this spring.  And Brent has a contractor mowing the front entrance on a regular basis. 

 

Incidents.  The good news is that we don’t have an increase in criminal activity in the neighborhood.  The primary events on file with the Mt. Vernon police have to do with

car tamperings by teenagers. There was apparently only one event were items were taken from a garage (the second incident mentioned in an email may have been outside the neighborhood.). We urge all to lock car and home doors.

 

Mason Hill Book Club.   Step just a few houses down the street and join the Mason Hill Book club. The inaugural meeting will November 16 at 7:30 PM at 1903 Mason Hill. Call Kris Frederickson at 703-765-8069 to let her know you are coming.

 

DISABLED VETERANS.  Kris Frederickson, who two years conducted a hat-and-mitten-drive for our vets, will collect phone cards this year to allow the disabled veterans at the VA hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia, to connect with family and friends.  You can pick the cards up in any of several dominations at many stores. There will be a box at Kris’s front door or mail to 1903 Mason Hill Drive.  Phone number is above.
