MASON HILL GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

7:30 PMWEDNESDAY, APRIL 20, 2005

Unitarian Church, Mansion

Guest speaker:  GERRY HYLAND, FAIRFAX COUNTY SUPERVISOR

8:30 SHORT BUSINESS MEETING AND ELECTION OF 2005-2006 MASON HILL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The following slate of candidates have volunteered to serve in the coming year:  President, Judy Branting; Executive Vice-President, Tom Frank; Vice-President for Grounds, Brent Cottrell; Vice-President for Safety, Susan Pentecost; Treasurer, Nancy de Moraes; Communications/Secretary, Don Minnis. Nominations will also be welcome from the floor.

The Board is also looking toward 2006–2007 when many current members will be moving to another position or off the Board.  We would especially like to identify someone from Hollinwood Drive to represent that part of the neighborhood.  These are not time intensive positions but represent Mason Hill’s vital interests.

We thank VP for Safety Lisa Kirst and Secretary Martha Finlator for their service on the past Board.

DUES AND DIRECTORY The 2005 annual dues of $25 are now due, and a new Mason Hill Directory will be handed out at the April 20 meeting to all who have paid their annual dues through 2005.  A check for $25 should be made out to Mason Hill Citizens Association and mailed to Nancy de Moraes at 1915 Mason Hill Dr. or brought to the meeting.    If you wish to verify if your dues are up to date, give Nancy a call at (703) 768-2599, or preferably e-mail at paudearara@aol.com

ENTRANCE/YARD SALE:  We will be having a Spring Cleanup Day this year on Saturday, April 23, 9 to 11 AM.  Light yard work.  We will be doing some tree work, weeding at the entrance area, picking up trash.  Just be there or call VP Grounds Brent Cottrell, 703-660-6974, Bpeg@aol.com. Also, we are trying to decide whether to hold another yard sale this spring or next fall.   Also contact Brent if you have a preference for one of these.

MASON HILL BOOK CLUB:  Next meeting will be Monday April 25, 7:30 PM, at  Hollindale Drive (street just south of Mason Hill, not Hollinwood Drive) . The book for that date is The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. Next meeting is Monday, May 23, with the book Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night by Mark Haddon. Just attend or notify Kris Frederickson, 703-765-8069 of your interest.

TAX ASSESSMENTS:  Neighbors are reporting a second notice from the County reducing their property tax assessments.  Contact the County if you have not received notice. Thanks to those neighbors who contacted the County regarding their views.

MASON HILL WEBSITE:  Carlos de Moraes has volunteered to develop Mason Hill's first web site, and is looking for ideas for inclusion on the site that will be found at www.masonhill.net.  Contact Carlos at paudearara@aol.com with any ideas. This site could be useful for real estate sales as well as information for current residents.

BRIDGE CLUB:  Anyone interested in attending a club in the neighborhood to include lessons and beginning next fall, please contact Jane Prugh at 703-765-7244, mprugh@aol.com.

MASON HILL WILDLIFE:  Neighbors have identified many residents of Mason Hill of the four-footed and winged variety—deer, foxes, owls, etc.  Plans call for pictures of the above to be displayed on the web site and in the directory.

DOGS:  Thanks to the neighbors who are scooping and otherwise making good neighbors of their pets.

SUMMER: Any one wishing lawn watering, pet sitting, or baby sitting opportunities, please contact Judy Branting.
